Driving Theory Test Guide
What is the Driving Theory Test?
The Driving Theory Test, set by the DVSA, is a mandatory computer-based exam that assesses your knowledge of key driving concepts, road rules, traffic signs, and safe driving practices. Passing this test is an essential step before booking your practical driving test.
The test consists of two sections:
- Multiple-Choice Section
- Includes 50 questions based on the Highway Code.
- You’ll receive instructions and have the chance to complete a practice question before starting.
2. Hazard Perception Section
- Features 14 video clips of real-life road scenarios.
- You must identify 15 developing hazards that would require action (e.g., a pedestrian stepping into the road).
- Scoring is based on how quickly you spot hazards, with a maximum of 5 points per hazard. A short instructional video explains the process before you begin.
